I've been reading Crowder's "Praise Habit" the last couple weeks and I'm really digging his commentary on the Psalms. One thing I'm finding interesting is his use of "The Message" Bible translation. I've never been a big fan of "The Message" but there are some things I really like about how he handles the Psalms.

Anyway... I wanted to note one of the Psalms today in several translations. I'm not sure what my point is. It just seemed like a good idea. = )

The New International Version (NIV)

Psalms 63:1-4
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

The Message

Psalms 63:1-4
God -- you're my God! I can't get enough of you! I've worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts. So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless you every time I take a breath; My arms wave like banners of praise to you.

The New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Psalms 63:1-4
O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water. Thus I have seen You in the sanctuary, To see Your power and Your glory. Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You. So I will bless You (F)as long as I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

The King James Version (KJV)

Psalms 63:1-4
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary. Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.

The Amplified Bible

Psalms 63:1-4
O GOD, You are my God, earnestly will I seek You; my inner self thirsts for You, my flesh longs and is faint for You, in a dry and weary land where no water is. So I have looked upon You in the sanctuary to see Your power and Your glory. Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. So will I bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.

A great passage in any translation! = )
